1. What is affiliate marketing?
According to Wikipedia, Affiliate marketing is a type of performance-based marketing in which a business rewards one or more affiliates for each visitor or customer brought by the affiliate’s own marketing efforts.
In basic terms, affiliate marketing is telling people about products or services rendered by a person or companies and getting paid for the sales you generate to them.
As the above graph explained, as an affiliate marketer, you have an audience, the trust, and the authority to recommend ideally products or services you personally used to your audience and get paid. More on this as we progress. For now, let’s talk about how you can get started.
2. How do you get started in Affiliate marketing in Nigeria.
I get this question a lot. It is important to know how to get started because doing it the wrong way would amount to a waste of time, energy, and money. Here are the steps you need to follow.

A. Choosing the right niche
Ideally, go into something you are passionate about or something you are using yourself. There is an exception to this rule anyway. The exception has to do with niches that pay more than the rest. While considering the niche, take note of the competition as well. If the niche is very competitive, why not go into something less competitive?
Questions you should ask yourself while considering the niche:
- What is my passion?
- What is the demand in the niche?
- What is the future of the niche?
- What is the competition like?
- Are there companies that have an affiliate program in the niche?
B. What is the demand in the niche?
After choosing your niche, you need to know the demand. Are people requesting products in that niche? To do so, use google trends.
If there is a large demand in your niche, how is the competition like?
C. Analyze your competition
There are many tools that can help you know how competitive your niche is. Some are paid tools while others are free. I use a free Chrome extension called Keywords everywhere. It gives you an idea of how competitive your keyword is.
D. Research for companies that pay well in your niche.
Quick research online can be of great help. The most important here is to look for high-paying companies. If you wish to go into network marketing, go for companies that have a good compensation plan.
3. How much do affiliate marketers in Nigeria
I can tell you my own story when it comes to affiliate marketing. Back in 2020, I started this affiliate journey with a company and I can tell you with full assurance that affiliate marketers make a whole lot of money.
How much was I making? I was making up to $1000 a week. Keep in mind I was only partnering with only one company. Imagine how much I would be making if I join 2-4 companies. Imagine if I get a team involved in the business.
$1000 a week is about 380.000 Naira. Today, That would amount to 580000 weekly or so. If you are into different companies you can make more than a million per week.

A. Jumia online retail
If you are a Content Creator, Influencer or Affiliate you can join Jumia to earn commissions. Jumia has an affiliate program. These are foreign companies but you can earn a lot with them, especially AliExpress. They have a large range of products that they do deliver worldwide.
D. Health Supplement companies
This is where the money is in my opinion. These companies give up to 40% of the product price as commission. You can work with the existing ones and be on the watch for the upcoming ones. It is even good if you join those kinds of companies at the early stage.
E. Real Estate affiliate
You can as well partner with Real Estate companies and start promoting what they do. You can make up to a million in one single sale. Keep in mind, 10% of those properties they do sell ios huge.
5. Do and Don’t in affiliate marketing
This section is very important if you would like to succeed in affiliate marketing. If not put into consideration, you may end up not getting the result of all the effort you may invest into affiliate marketing. Let’s start with the dos.
A. The Do in Affiliate marketing
- Promote products or services you know
- A good call to action: People like people told what to do, so it is important you lead them.
- Promote products that are in high demand.
- Strategize on how to promote your affiliate products.
B. The Don’t in affiliate marketing
- Don’t promote multiple products on one page. That could be confusing to your audience.
- Make sure the products or services you are promoting actually match the customers’ expectations.
